This research proposal revolves around three main themes in the area of labor and finance:

1. How do interactions with employees affect firm leverage? How does the latter affect employment and wages?
2. Do firms provide insurance to their employees against adverse shocks? Does the extent of such risk sharing differ
   depending on firm characteristics and institutional arrangements?
3. Do employment contracts of managers affect their incentives to act in the interest of owners? Do these incentives differ between widely and closely held firms?
